Course Description

Religion is deeply seated in the collective experiences of the human race. Each culture has intrinsic values that define it. In turn, those intrinsic values are expressed in the religions of that culture. To understand the religion, it must be viewed in the context of its creation and development in historical times. This is not to say that religion is a man-made creation; yet it reflects what is divine in each race, culture, and individual. The major religions of the world form the basis for the course and each is linked to a value that is esteemed most highly by the respective religions. The student will not only understand the historical and cultural basis for religions, but will also examine the value in the context of his or her own life. Such application explains why this course is considered part of the character education series.
