Course Description

Spanish is spoken in 21 countries, making it one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world. Knowing Spanish will enable the student to connect with a wider range of people in their daily life, perhaps even leading to a job where speaking another language is an advantage, as in medicine or business. This course teaches the student how to greet others, describe their friends and family, exchange telephone numbers, and talk about their daily life, including school and home. Spanish 1A is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. Basic grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation are presented with the intent that the student will be able to carry on a simple conversation in the Spanish language. Students are introduced to regional differences in vocabulary and pronunciation that are found throughout the Spanish-speaking world. In this course, the student will learn how to greet others, describe their friends and family, exchange telephone numbers, and talk about their daily life, including school and home. There are six units comprised of five lessons each.

Course Description

Spanish 1B is a continuation of the introduction to Spanish language and culture students experienced in Spanish 1A. Regional differences in customs and pronunciation are highlighted when presenting grammar and vocabulary in context. Knowing Spanish will enable students to connect with a wider range of people in their daily lives. In this course, students learn how to express preferences when shopping, describe a house and its contents, share household chores, and talk about their favorite leisure activities. Spanish 1B is comprised of six units, or five lessons each, with many opportunities to practice the Spanish language in online class discussions with students and teachers alike.
